I will say for OK that unlike Sticker Star or Color Splash which were very flawed executions of a role playing game, the former is a successful attempt at being an enjoyable action adventure title (albeit with RPG elements that don't really feel like they fit anymore). I think in some respects, they're probably the most diametrically opposed Mario titles out there, perhaps only eclipsed by the contrast between something like Mario 3D Land and Mario Sunshine. Origami King is an interesting title to compare with Mario RPG. I posted this in Geno thread and given the current discussion, it felt relevant again. But I think I want to see more enemies like Kammy Koopas or Jr Troopers before I see anymore color pencil trays or roll of tape enemies. Origami is a really great idea to introduce within a world like Paper Mario. I think it still offers some really clever ideas in terms of what they are going for. Part of me kind of misses the idea of the game taking place within a story book instead of just papercraft being the entire world. The everything is paper approach feels a bit on the nose too. I think new experiences are fine but I think my concerns from modern Paper Mario stems from how much it decided to stray away from the formula that made Super Mario RPG and the first two Paper Mario games really successful. However I think my major concern or my immediate dismissal from those games comes from Tanabe's philosophy on how he needs to change the game and keep things fresh with it. While I haven't played TOK or Color Splash, I don't have much ground to speak on either game. (I figure that Mario & Luigi would be more complicated to make a spiritual successor for, but I thought I should mention it) does anyone know of any spiritual successors to any of the Mario RPGs? (think Yooka-Laylee or Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night) I know that Bug Fables is extremely similar to Paper Mario (I bought Bug Fables on the Switch, played it, and loved it), but I was wondering if there were any other games like it that I was unaware of, or games that are like Super Mario RPG or Mario & Luigi. (admittedly, I've got plenty of RPGs in my backlog, so I probably don't need another, but I'd prefer to buy any good ones now while I have the option) are any of the Mario & Luigi games on the 3DS worth picking up? I'm not sure when the 3DS's eShop is going to close, but I stopped paying close attention to the Mario & Luigi games after Bowser's Inside Story (it took me a while to buy a 3DS - it wasn't until shortly before Robin and Lucina were revealed for Smash 4, I think), so I'm not sure what I missed out on. This is another good Discord server that talks about all Mario RPG games (SMRPG, Paper Mario, M&L, Mario + Rabbids etc) Definitely a place I recommend you follow if you want to continue seeing and supporting GenoĪn entire Discord server for Super Mario RPG.
